Matthew 6:19-21

First, I need to admit that I loved watching TV growing up. With that said, I am going to talk about another show I used to watch on Nick. This show was about treasure and called Legends of the Hidden Temple. There are 6 teams that start, but by the end of the episode only one team gets to search the Hidden Temple for treasure. Watching game shows really hype me up. They seem easy but that's because we as watchers see where the players need to go. Legends of the Hidden Temple was fun to watch, but really only when the kids found the treasure.

If you haven't figured it out, today we are talking about treasure. What does treasure mean to you? Do you just think of money/wealth, or time spent with someone, or maybe even pirates?

Matthew 6:19-21 says Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Are the things you think of as treasure something you can store up in heaven? Matthew doesn't say what can be stored in heaven. Make a list of things that you believe cannot be stored in heaven. Then after that, make a list of treasure that can be stored in heaven. Which list was easier to make? What things did you put under the stored in heaven list?

Sometimes it's hard to think of treasure that can be stored in heaven. The blessings from yesterday are small treasures you can store in heaven. Now try working on that list a little more. As much as seeing the kids on Legends of the Hidden Temple win the treasure, I think winning treasure in heaven is more important and more enjoyable.
