Today we have a video from the Skit Guys. It may take awhile to load.
What kind of giver are you? Do you know people who would fit the different types of givers they acted out?
Let's look at the Scripture they referred to:
Malachi 3:8-10 says “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
In the Old Testament God asked Israel to do many things, and many times the Israelites didn't listen. In the reading today, we see that they weren't following when God asked them to tithe.
Would you rob Chase Bank? Would you rob from Heaven's bank?
This passage is telling us that by not tithing we are robbing God. That kinda hurts.
But what if I don't have a job or source of income? Do you receive an allowance? Do you go out for dinner? Do you receive birthday or Christmas gifts? We all are given things. What if instead of that latest gadget, a quick meal one night, or gum you ask for the money and give it to God. Get creative, there are ways you can tithe without having an income.
The good news that this passage brings is that by tithing God will bless us in many ways.
Instead of looking at tithing as a chore or something you have to do, try looking at tithing as a blessing. God has blessed us with having money. Try returning that blessing to God.
